Have you ever notced all the duplicate filters in FCP 5.1.2 or is just me?
If you set the effect availability to ‘all effects’ the fxplug versions are named exactly the same.
For example Gaussian Blur & you guessed it, Gaussian Blur

Because this is the first implementation of FXplug in FCP, so you are seeing both effects available to you.
In the next coloumn should be which type of filter so you can choose.On the other hand, what else would they call it?

Well, if you use the filters from the effects tab, it’s easy to discern. I usually select filters from the effects menu and there’s no way of knowing what’s what. They could be called something like Gaussian Blur (fx) or Desaturate (fx). Anything that wouldn’t make it look like some sort of installation error. AS it is now if I select Gaussian Blur, I don’t know which one I’m getting, is it the new fxplug version or the original version? It’s a lot of unnecessary trial and error, you know?

That’s why the default is only recommended effects. It adds in the Motion filters that are new but leaves out the duplicates. You can also go into the Effects tab and check the ones you want to work with. If you prefer the Motion blur with direction values, check it on. I check on all the filters, except the duplicates, and from the duplicates, check the one I prefer. Then turn on preferred effects.

Lovely, thanks for the description, Tom. I tried finding that in the PDF manual, but alas it’s not in there. This is now making sense.
