I need to get some flash animations into FCP, but they’re in a swf file format, and I can’t figure out how to turn them into anything else. Is there some program or something I can use to convert it to a quicktime or something else useful?

Yes. Quicktime. Open them with QT and output them as a quicktime. Usually works, but I’ve had it not open. Probably due to version issues on one side or the other. Also, with SWF being interactive, you’ve got to realize it may not quite come out as you expected. If it’s just a play through anim, it should be ok.

Nevermind. Doesn’t seem to work these days. A year ago I dd a large project which first consisted of adapting flash to QT. I simply used QT player.

I guess you’ll have to use squeeze or flash.

You can convert to quicktime using ffmpeg (https://homepage.mac.com/major4/)

Open Flash and export them as QT to the Animation or DV codecs.
If you don’t have Flash, find someone who does, like the guy who gave you the files.
If you’re going to be doing this often, get Flash.
    I hate Flash.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
