  • 16:9 sequence layoff for DVD recording

I have a sequence with settings: frame size: 720X480
    aspect ratio: NTSC DV (3:2)
    NTSC-CCIR 601/DV
    anamorphic 16:9 checked

I have laid this off to my sony PD 150 camera two ways: camera setting with 16:9 aspect ratio and the regulat setting.

When I try to make a dvd copy of it from the tapes, the video is stretched (vertically elongated and the black bars top & bottom do not appear).

How do I get the video to record on the DVD at the 16:9 aspect ratio (letterbox with the black bars on top and bottom?) The tape shows them but not the monitor hooked up to the DVD recorder?

Is it the DVD recorder that has to have the right adjustment or is there a way for me to turn the sequence into another format that will then look like the 16:9 format but is a 4:3 format that the DVD player can view that way?

    Thanks for explaining this.

This is what it is supposed to do. Your DVD player is supposed to letterbox it on a 4:3 screen. You may need to change a menu setting on your player.

I have tried to change it and even called the manufacturer but they were not able to help me. They said the recorder did not accommodate the 16:9 format even though it lists those formats.

Does anyone know if there a way to export a quicktime of the sequence with the letter box in the 4:3 format and then bring back into a 4:3 sequence and then out to tape again? Or can I change the setting on my camera (Sony PD 150) to have letterbox show up but format is 4:3?

You dont need to change anything when recording. Leave the signal anamorphic.

When the DVD is played back ALL DVD players are required to be able to letterbox a 16:9 movie. Its part of the DVD spec.

I want to put it onto DV tape and then bring it to another location to put it on a DVD.

I think I need the tape (& camera setting) not to be 16:9 but be seen as letterbox format. Need to figure out sequence settings etc.to do this. Want to send the DVD recorder a 4:3 format I think.
