I’ve got a timeline in dvcpro50. whenever i try tu use the fcp filter basic 3d to shrink a clip and rotate it on the x or y axis the clip gets extremely jagged edges. Is this they way basic 3d works? or is there a bettter way to rotate x/y without jagged edges.

    Paul,

Unfortunately yes, its pretty useless in my experience. AE, Combustion, or possibly Boris are what you need for good quality animating in 3D space.

Doesnt’ matter. The 3D effect bites. Jaggy edges.

Have you tried using the anti-alias filter with this?

    All the best,

CHV Electronics makes a set of plug-ins for FCP, including some better looking 3D-effects.

You can get good results with Motion’s 3D filter.

    Hi,

If you use a ‘mask shape’ filter before the basic 3D filter on the clip and use it to crop the image slightly by setting it to rectangle and using settings of 98 or 99 in the horizontal and vertical sliders, then it gets rid of the jagged edges. (you could then try adding a mask feather to smooth edges a bit more if necessary).
