The last Pro Application Support is recommended for al the users of the Universal FC Suit. I’m working with FC 5.0.4 but when I run Software Update the program offers me to install the new Pro Applications Support.
Apple says that its solves the issue of the Gamma shifting when working with AE in 16 bits. This would be very helpful for me because I’m doing an animation in AE, But in the other hand I’m about to finish a short film in 8bUnc with FC 5.0.4 and its really scare me to think that FC could start to make funny things if I install the PAS update,
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Rafael

Don’t update in the middle of a project. If you are worried about the gamma shift issue just do the AE animation in 8bit.

It is a wise suggestion to not update mid project. However in this case, I don’t see where there would be a problem. In fact, I’ve updated many times mid project, and never really seen a problem of any kind. The only caveat here though is upgrading… not updating… upgrading is much dicier. But if you do a clean install of a new OS upgrade, then reinstall the apps, it normally goes quite smoothly. I keep 2 SATA’s in my mac, and each has an operation system on them. When a new system upgrade happens, I keep the old tried and true setup, and create a new startup disk for the new software… test it then go on.

    Thanks for the suggestion matticc.
Jerry, the problem i see is that the PAS are hihgly recommended for the 5.1 users, but they don’t say nothing about the 5.0.4 users.
    Cheers,
    Rafael

All updates specific to FCP 5.0.4 ended pretty much when 5.1 Universal came out.

Still don’t think there’s a problem because if there was, the PAS would state NOT to do this with a 5.0 system.
