  Does anyone know of any other vendors of 4-port PCI-e SATA cards, other than Firmtek and Sonnet? The firm that sold us a nice shiny Mac Pro, Kona3, etc, has now provided a couple of G-Raid sata drives. Which would be fine, except the Sonnet SATA card doesn’t work with a Mac Pro yet. Firmtek don’t seem to make one that’s four port. Any ideas gratefully received, the project has come to a stop otherwise..

  Firmtek does make a 4-port SATA card:

  I’m using one, along with a 2-port card. Keep in mind that if your SATA drives have SSC turned “on” it will not be compatible. Here’s a tech note from Firmtek:

  Serial ATA Hard Drive Compatibility

  Note: Early Hitachi Serial ATA hard drives are incompatible with the SeriTek/1VE4 Host Adapter. This is due to a seldom-used Serial ATA feature called SSC, which is enabled on these hard drives. The SeriTek/1VE4 does not support this feature. Newer model Hitachi Serial ATA hard drives should be compatible with SeriTek/1VE4.

  At this time, the following Hitachi Deskstar hard drives have the SSC feature disabled, and are compatible with the SeriTek/1VE4 host adapter:

  * Model 7K400 (400GB)

  Thanks for that Dean – but are you using an Intel Mac Pro? they’re PCI-E, not PCI-X, and there’s no mention of Mac Pro compatibility on that page.
