matchframe to tape
Posted by Ron Darby on September 18, 2006 at 10:12 pmHas there been any new tools or products that allows you to do a match frame to tape while printing to tape.
While printing a half hour show I often get under runs late in the show or find a miss-spelled word. It would be nice to do a match frame a few seconds before the edit rather than starting over from the beginning. I have play around with FCP’s match frame to tape years ago but never got accurate results.

September 18, 2006 at 10:22 pmYou can insert edit on layback with Insert in Edit to Tape. Just enter the TC number you want to punch into in the TC entry.
You just have to operate with pre-striped tapes is all.Kevin Monahan

September 18, 2006 at 10:34 pmHi Ron…
Dean Sensui from “Hawaii Goes Fishing”.
I’m guessing you’re working with George on his show?
If so, I had to do the same thing recently. FCP can do a frame-accurate insert of just the video, which is pretty much what we ended up doing.
Should you need help with this just let me know.

If you have a Betacam deck, experiement with the timecode offset setting. That did the trick for me.

September 19, 2006 at 12:00 amI think thats what I was trying last time I attemped to do it, is there a magic # that works for 1800s
Also how are you getting your video from the Mac to your 1800? Do you have a Kona card of some type or are you passing through a DV to anolog device?Right now Im getting “compressions do not match output” so Im checking all mt sequence, clips, and output settings.
Aloha Ron
PS I just got back from a year trip in Florida working on a PBS show, amd yes I am still doing the “Granny TV Mall” show.

I’m using a Blackmagic Decklink SP card for output from FCP to a UVW-1800 via component, and am using the 422 controller cable that comes with it. I’m also using this setup as a reference output for all my color correction/grading and audio work.
My sequences for HGF are DV format since nearly all the material we currently shoot is in DVCam.
A/V device is set for Blackmagic NTSC, 8 bit (720×486)
Audio: Decklink Audio.Sequence preset is the stock “DV NTSC 48 kHz” preset.
Here’s my setup for the 1800:
Protocol: Sony RS-422
Audio Mapping: 2 channels
Time Source: LTC & VITC
Port: RS422 Deck Control
Frame Rate: 29.97Use deck search mechanism.
Capture offset: 0
Handle size: 00:00:00;00
Playback offset: +00:00;04Pre-roll: 5 seconds
Post-roll: 2 secondsHope this helps.
Granny’s a fun guy. Quite a character!

You’re trying to insert edit from the timeline to the deck. Edit to tape works from the viewer to the tape. You’re probably trying to edit a slug onto the tape. Put the sequence in the viewer.
Do a preview first just like the good ol tape editing days.

That did the trick along with Deans info. It works great now
Thank you all very much
