I’m looking for a manual switch box to allow me to control 2 decks from my Aja. I currently have a One-2-Pucnh, but it seems to have died. I get not communication in FCP, but when the decks are connected directly it works fine.

Anyway back on the subject. I’m looking for a short term, inexpensive fix, because we are going to be installing a router in the next week or so.

I can’t seem to find this listed on the web, and I think it also goes by DB9 (mainly for PC’s). Am I correct or thinking of something else.

Or if you can point me point me in the direction of what I’m looking for that would be great.

    Thanks

It works fine, the only problem you might find is that the screws won’t quite screw in as the holes are metric and the pins are US, but it also migth not be a problem. A cheap DB-9 cable will work just fine. I have a long one going form my Kona 2 to a series of decks and an io if I need. It has not failed me. Make sure your have the proper genders on both sides and if the cable doesn’t, get a gender changer.

You can purchase an A-B serial port selector box from just about any “real” computer shop, not the retail giants. I’ve used one of these for many years without problems.

One more thing to remember is to have one “control cable” going from Kona to the switch box, and the cables going out of the switch box to the 2 decks should be “straight through” cables (same pin assignments at both ends). With serial, you’ve got to keep the transmit and receive wires going to the right places!

I have the cables already. I’m just replacing the switch box. So a DB-9 Serial A-B switch box should work?

    Thanks

Yep. That simple “A-B” box will work just fine. If needed, they even make “A-B-C-D” boxes so you can pick from one of four decks to control.

We’ve got a bunch of them deployed throughout the building. I think they cost less than $20.00 bucks.
