We just installed two brand-new Apple Xserve RAID’s to run with our two Powermac G5 dual 2.5 Ghz machines (OS 10.4.7). However, both machines are having issues with “video freezing” while playing back DV25 footage in FCP 5 (ver. 5.04). Apparently, this happens on the capture end, since when we copy the media elsewhere and reconnect, the freezes remain. But new, fresh recaptures onto other drives remove the freeze, so we know it’s an XServe Raid issue.

    Anyone ever encounter this problem?

    thx in advance.

    Yes,

you have to uncheck something in the RAID Admin setup, but I’m away from the office and I can’t remember what it is. I think it’s disable write caching or something like that.

There is a support note on the Apple site about it.

Yes, it’s uncheck “Allow Host Cache Flushing” and uncheck “Use Steady Streaming Mode”

There’s “drive write cache” and “controller write cache.” I’ll disable both, just to be safe and try again. Should you find out which one of the two caches should stay checked, pls let me know. 😉

    thx
