I just recently captured some footage and the audio tracks show nothing at all on them. When I open the files in Quicktime, the video and audio both work. When I drag the files to my timeline there is absolutely no audio levels. The audio format is in Mono Mix. Is this my problem? If so, is there a way to convert the files? Please help, this is for a school project that needs to be turned in soon!

Do you have waveforms? Look in the Audio Tab when you load a clip into the Viewer.

There are no waveforms at all! I captured the footage on a different computer and imported them onto mine. I put the files in the timeline and viewer in final cut on the other computer but for some strange reason when I do the same on my computer, there is absolutely no audio. But there is when I play the clips in quicktime. I think the versions of final cut are pretty close between computers, would this have an effect? Otherwise do you know of any programs that will record “system” audio if I were to play the audio out of quicktime and sink up the files?

Any possibility these files are muxed?

Files that play back in QT but FCP doesn’t see the audio usually need to be demuxed.

    Google MPEG Streamclip.
