Someone has given me a sony HDVZ1 camera and a mixture of HDV and DV footage. I do have a sony DV deck with sdi out as well. I have lots of keying to do also. Could anyone give me some advice on capture and project settings, as I am thinking I have to take everything in as a Native DV project (SD). Therefore downconverting the HDV footage on the camera output.

I would capture everything native over firewire then downconvert.

That’s probably the best way to go if you’re going to end up with an SD final project. Much easier to work with the footage if you bring it all in at the same codec / resolution during capture than dealing with it after it’s already in the system. That will set you up for a lot of extra rendering time that you really don’t need to do.
