sequence presets and capture presets for mini-dv
Please help with my settings for the best quality for importing and exporting quicktime movies mostly for dvd use (idvd for now…)
I want to use “none” as compressor for capturing, but the files end up way too large (i only have 60 G), i end up using NTSV/DV 100 quality
For sequence presets, i then match it up here as NTSC/DV but am unsure about the “field dominance”
when i export based on preset above, i THEN export as “none” compressor at 100% file is bit large but doable
thanks for the help always gurus……(and shane – thanks for the help on my most recent codec issue – you SAVED my project. can’t believe i never knew how to use the auto save vault!)

Very easy. When you open FCP, select Final Cut Pro/Easy Setup or Cntl Q. Select DV-NTSC and you are all set. When you export, select File/Export/Quicktime movie (self-contained can be on or off).
That’s how simple it is. You don’t have to worry about quaility settings or filed dominance. DV is always set to Lower if you want to know.

Set field dominance to “lower”.
The best codec for capturing will be the the same one as the video clip e.g. if the clip was recorded in DV NTSC then that should be your capture/sequence setting. If you’re importing a QT movie and you’re not sure of the format, open your clip in QT, choose the ‘show movie info’ command from the Window menu. Beside ‘format’ you’ll find all the info for the clip’s video and audio
