Titles in FCP clean before render, Jagged after
My texts from Titles 3D look perfectly clean in the timeline before I render them. After I render them they become jagged and pixilated. I’m working in FCP 4.5 on a powerbook g4. Any ideas what causes this and how I can fix it. I’m really looking to be able to solve this internally from within FCP, and not be doing my titles in Photoshop or Live Type (which I don’t have). Thanks for the help.

Make sure that your titles are on an even pixel in the motion tab under the center parameter. make it [10,24], not [10, 24.31] or whatever.

In addition to making sure your vertical positioning is always on an even integer…
It is essential when attempting to monitor the QUALITY of images in FCP that you use an external NTSC VIDEO Monitor (or PAL, if that’s where you are).
Especially after you render…
the Canvas is never high-quality (by design) and should not be used to make determinations of image quality of clips or graphics. -

My motion is all on even integers. And no, I do not have an external monitor, just a second LCD monitor and my Camera’s LCD. Both look jagged. The problem is not with my monitors. Because the image looks great in the canvas before rendering. When I export to QT the text is still jagged. Is there anything I can do about this? thanks

It is not an opinion.
It is the way FCP is designed:You can ONLY judge QUALITY on an EXTERNAL VIDEO MONITOR…
you can NOT judge QUALITY on the FCP computer screen. -
Thax hit on the head. Take a video cable out from your camera to a tv and see what it looks like. A simple RCA or Svideo cord should do it.

Please give me constructive advice on HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I am aware that my I don’t have an external monitor and that FCP is designed to use one. That being said, my titles are still not rendering clean. What can I do to fix them? I’m sure I’m not the first person to have problems with FCP text and that there have been solutions in the past.

How do you KNOW you HAVE a problem?
Without viewing on an external monitor, you are not SEEING the correct image from FCP.
We keep telling you that you MUST use an external monitor to SEE if the QUALITY is actually LOW.
After rendering, the image on the FCP Canvas on the computer screen WILL LOOK SOFT. It will look SOFTER than it did BEFORE the render on the computer screen.
First connect FCP correctly, then if you still have a problem, describe it, and we might have more info.

There are limitations to quality in this format, but many of use use it successfully every day.

The problem is ABSOLUTELY with your monitors. You’re looking at interlaced footage on computer monitors. Get an external monitor, look at your titles there and then let us know how they look.
