  • show software with backtiming???

Posted by E. Eric johnson iii on January 25, 2006 at 10:00 pm

    hep’ me, hep’ me… i be hyp-mo-tyzed!!!

i’ve searched the archives to no avail… google has let me down…

currently i’m working with a company that needs software that will back-time a show to 0. a similar program would be “iNews” or something like that; however, that’s big $ for a tiny operation. final draft av does not have back-timing.

    any ideas???

Countdown? is that what they need? like a backwards clock? Why software?

unfortunately it’s not a countdown, it’s for show timing.

if a show is supposed to be 30-minutes w/3 internal breaks of two minutes plus a terminal break of 2 minutes, then the show has 22-minutes of actual content in 4 segments. since content isn’t finite each segment varies in length but they must total to 22-minutes in the end.

so the program starts at 30-minutes and each break & segment begins subtracting from the 30-minutes until it reaches “0.”

it’s like a bulletproof excel sheet with jpegs being able to be shot around. show producers can slaughter an excel sheet. boy, i wish it were as simple as a countdown!

    anyone, anyone?? — bueller?

Just use a time calculator. That’s what we used to use at CNN and production companies I work with use them all the time.

    https://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=TMR%2D1&off=1&sort=prod

You can just type in the time segements of each of your shows and ensure that you’re hitting 22 minutes.

it’s drop-frame, though the producers that use it wouldn’t know the difference. tv stations have been using a program like this for decades. it’s not complicated, just bulletproof for deadline live tv production. there’s really not much of a market for it unless you have large $’s i suppose.

thanks for the inquiry and the help.
