    hey there,

working on a seq with lots of stills which i have added filters to and am tilting on their axis. when the playhead is stoped over the unrendered footage it looks right as soon as i render the stills are replaced by a solid green block where the still image should be. the stills are jpegs and same thing happened when i converted them to png’s

    any ideas?

tracked down the problem to a third party filter i was using to desaturate the image. any idea why this filter would have this kind of effect? is there some fxscript reason that some plugins conflict and other dont etc…?

    i’m curious

I’ve found that when FCP does this you can get around it in a pinch by turning off YUV rendering, especially if you are using 10-bit. A lot of the Sapphires (which I use often) will do this. You can ctrl-click the sequence, go to sequence settings, and then the render control tab I beleive. I’ve had to turn it to RGB for other reasons too (e.g. using motion blur in a variety of situations, like on top of composite modes, etc…) Hope this helps.

    Thanks Todd,

that would effect the quality of your final render especially in 10 bit – i always forget which is better RGB or YUV?

Yes, it not only affects the render quality, but I have also noted at times shifts in the video/chroma levels. It is not ideal, but it will get you through in a pinch. YUV is the better quality BTW.

It would be interesting to see if changing your render settings helped in your case though… Might help you/someone track down where the problem is.

    Good luck you you!

Unless you want to do fades from colour to B/W why don’t you desaturate the jpegs in Photoshop or such first? Should shorten render times a little as well.
