  Video goes fuzzy when I just move it down?!?!

  I have a some very nice clean dv footage. Over that I have two slugs cropped to 15 for a letter box. I thought the letterbox gave me freedom to move the video up and down but whenever I do the video goes fuzzy (like a prerender or something).

  Has anyone else had this probem?
  Does anyone know how to fix it?

  I’m using a DV/DVCPRO timeline but I tested everything in an uncompressed 10-bit timeline and the results weren’t much better.
  Frame size is 720 x 480
  Pix aspect is NTSC – CCIR 601 / DV
  Field Dominance is lower (even)
  Video Processing is set to Render all YUV material in high-precision YUV.
  Frame Rate is at 100%
  Resolution is also 100%

  I’m on FCP 4.5.
  Dual 2.5 G5
  4 gig ram.
  Using an IO.

  if you’re playing it in realtime, it will degrade until you render it out.

  Also, when you move video up or down in NTSC, you must move it to an even scan line or it will look degraded. In the Motion Tab, ensure that the Center setting has an even number on the second setting. Such as 0,10.

  When I have to adjust position and screen size, I get everything in the general area I need it for the rough cuts, and then go back and even out all the number before my big final render. I do have a question though, when using LiveType or motion (to import later into FCP 5.0.2) do I need to keep those numbers even in LiveType or Motion? This is why I ask: When working in those programs, I get my text or graphics right where I want them, so that I’m not moving the clips position/scale in FCP. So since I’m not adjusting anything in FCP, I should be alright, right?

  I’d still be mindful of the odd/even scan line issue. You may want to do a test.
