  Problems converting 29.97 timeline to 23.98

  I am having problems converting a 29.97 timeline to 23.98.

  Here’s the rundown:
  The project was shot with the DVX-100A in 24 P Advanced mode.
  The editor captured and edited the footage at 29.97 (argh!).
  Now the motion looks off since the pulldown was not removed when capturing.

  I understand I can remove the pulldown by recapturing with Advanced Pulldown Removal or using Reverse Telecine, but what about the differences in the timelines? When I copy the 29.97 timeline into a 23.98 timeline there are 1-2 frame gaps between many of the cuts…

  Whatever you are seeing in the 29.97 playback is most likely not due to capturing 24PA material as 29.97… (rather it’s something else) The only thing you’d gain by removing the pulldown is smaller files I’d think. The look of the motion should be the same.

  That said, you’ll have to remove the pulldown in the source clips with Cinema tools or recapture it from tape removing the advanced pulldown pattern to work in a 23.98 sequence setting in any event. Can’t just put the 29.97 material in a 23.98 sequence…
