Both your speakers & your video monitor should be connected to your deck while capturing & laying off to tape. That way, you’re always monitoring what’s on the tape.

    I disagree

You should always monitor the computer output during capture (as with any recording device) so that you can see/hear what you are actually capturing. This is much more important than seeing/hearing what is on the tape (but which may not be going on to the FCP system). Then yes, when playing out you should monitor the deck to see what is being laid to tape.

Doing it any other way leaves room for error when capturing. BUT there have been reports of ‘popping’ during capture as the system upconverts the audio for playback.

On the original question – yes this option is missing from it’s old place and I badly need to have it back again. We will have to re-route a lot of cabling from our decks unless I can find a way round.

Any suggestions anyone on how to switch the speaker to ON as inFCP 4?
