how do you like your apple/dell 20″ real estate?
Posted by Joslyn on June 13, 2005 at 4:39 amtime to upgrade my HEAVY dual 21″ crt’s…was wondering how you’re liking the workspace of your apple or dell’s 20″ widescreen monitors? i wanna go w/ dual lcd’s and was thinking of going w/ dell’s widescreen 2005 20.1″ for the price. was also considering two of dell’s 2405 24″ monitors. was wondering if the 20″ers are big enough or go for the 24’s? thanks for you input!

June 13, 2005 at 12:19 pmI’d go for at least a 23″ LCD. Two are nice, but at least one is superb, especiallly when dealing with any HD content as you’ve got more rez than the needed 1920×1080.

June 13, 2005 at 11:16 pmCaution: Those Dells are VERY bright, like they’ll burn a hole into you retinas bright, and there’s not an easy way to control them. Although in MacWorld Mag, I heard of a shareware utility that does this.

June 17, 2005 at 12:56 amI run dual 23″ displays and find it very useful, but I’m using one of them as a HD monitor: https://www.lafcpug.org/reviews/review_decklink.html

June 17, 2005 at 5:30 amhey graeme, yes, i purchased 3 of dell’s 24″ monitors 2 for fcp and the 3rd i’m preparing for my hd preview monitor once the hvx comes out. i’ve never seen the dell in person so i’m wondering if this is too huge of a setup since i’m used to 20″ crt’s? also, is the decklink solution the cheapest route for monitoring dvcpro hd? thanks!

June 17, 2005 at 11:38 amIt’s a higue setup allright, but should look awesome and there should be no limits to your productivity! The Deckllink card is the cheapest way to monitor HD on your FCP setup. However, I’ve heard that it’s a bit of a pain to get the Dell to monitor pixel for pixel over component, Adam Wilt had an article on his site about it, and just check that the component works good with HD because Mike Curtis at HDforIndies.com had issues with his in that mode.

June 17, 2005 at 2:07 pmYes indeed, but that’s an extra $695 for the magic box.
