  .make a “feet+frames” film counter in AE

  Hi everyone-I’m trying to make a film style “feet+frames” counter display in After Effects. I’ve tried some experiments w/ the Text/Numbers effect, but no lock…I’m not real good w/ expressions…If anyone who has an idea on how to do this, I would sure appreciate it! Thanks, Lori

  Did you try effect>text>timecode, setting the display format to “feet + frames” ?

  in the expression language menu under “Global” you’ll find a bunch of expressions already written for you that use the time of the comp to generate counters.

  Time to feet and frames is one of them. Just start a new text layer and add the expression to the source text property then set the number of frames per foot. It couldn’t be easier. I think it defaults to 35mm, 16mm is 40 frames per foot, 35mm is 16.

  make sure you pick a monospaced font so the numbers don’t jump around. the expression language menu is right next to the pickwhip and look like a little triangle.
