    Hi,

I’m cutting a feature using Alexa ProRes 444 footage and Premier. What is the best workflow for this arrangement?

I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro 2.6 with 8 GB Ram running Yosemite.

Is it reasonable to cut natively or should I use a proxy workflow. We will be syncing and merging clips to cut with so they would have to be matched back laster if we use the proxy path.

I have a faster imac that we could use but it’s running Sierra but I’ve been advised to stick with Yosemite for now.

    Thanks!
    Rachel

Definitely proxy workflow, it’s the whole reason why it exists.

If you have fast enough storage to use the original files there’s no need to use proxies. Prores isn’t that intensive codec.

She has a fairly slow Mac Book Pro with only 8GB of RAM. Might be fine for a small project, but performance will not be good on a feature film. I’m using a MacPro 2013 and performance can be sluggish with ProRes 4444. I’m not even sure if that model MBP has a qualified GPU for Mercury Engine acceleration. Sounds like a textbook case for using proxies to me.
