Adobe Premiere CS5.5 won’t play the project timeline
I have never had a problem with Adobe Premiere CS5.5 until recently.
The timeline won’t play anything, I can scrub the video and audio just fine, but it won’t play.
I have a 12 Core Mac pro with 6GB of ram…it’s a powerful machine…I don’t understand why it should be doing this. The loop feature is not enabled. I’ve tried restarting the program, reinstalling the program, and trouble shooting the settings.
Please help if you know anything about this issue.

I have the same problem, I think…but I am on Windows 7 version of Creative Suite Production Premium. Premiere Pro imports video just fine, but when I drop into the timeline..it won’t display at all. After Effects is not affected by this. Will the same type fix work for Win version? -
I figured it out. Problem solved.
Nobody responded, but I am new here…..lol -
Pardon me, but what exactly did you do to fix your issue? I am actually having a very similiar problem and have yet to be able to find a solution.

As it turned out..I have two graphics cards for my dual operating systems. One is an Nvidia Fermi and the other is a Radeon. Premiere was meant to run off the NVIDIA and I had accidentally switched over to the other that runs the Mac. Once I figured it out…I swapped the settings and Premiere was fine. Premiere’s Mercury acceleration (on the PC) needs that card.
I would check your driver settings and be sure it is set correctly.

I usually follow Colombo logic, so thinking about my own 48GB 24 Core
Dual Xeon…Hmm…what just changed, I thought…I noticed Skype, of all things was now running in the background.
I quit Skype and PPro began to work once more.I think this…if you have a webcam or Firewire device that is hogging an interupt or nagging the CPU process list it may prevent PPro from functioning correctly.
Hope this helps and I only found out because my PPRo just did the same thing. Skype on, PPro timeline fails to respond.

Just to add to this discussion for others who have a similar problem but not finding a solution, I found two solutions. I once found that I solved this issue by taking out a certain piece of audio. It played fine after that, and then I reinserted the audio. Still great. A second time I was working on a project, and when I un-enabled a piece of audio, it suddenly wouldn’t play for me. After a while of playing around with the timeline, I re-enabled that audio, and it worked just like before. I’m sure this is a deeper issue but it might help someone out there.
