  thin vertical lines flickering, ach.

  hey all-

  does anyone have any creative ways to deal with the way thin vertical lines flicker when moving across a composition space?

  I’m unable to change the image (or scale up in it). I’ve been attempting to use a kind of filter like “reduce interlace flicker” to deal with the problem, to no avail.

  any ideas?

  p.s. – in the old days wasn’t this problem called something like “moray-ing”?

  Are you talking about lines that appear when you’re ram previewing the comp? If so, you can try turning on frame blending for that layer. Also, I’m not 100% sure if this helps, but if the layer you’re talking about is video, make sure the source’s settings are all correct by right-clicking on the source in the project window and choosing “interpret footage>main”.

  Just a note, I sometimes get wierd vertical lines when previewing a comp that don’t actually effect the final render.

  no, the flicker is also on the final render.

  I’m animating images of old woodcuts (lotsa lines and crosshatching), and the problem occurs when the width of the lines are smaller than the pixel it occupies. So, when the image moves, AE keeps calculating a different color value.

  I can’t scale up to get rid of the problem.

  any ideas?

  if they are stills you might experiment with adding a 1 pixel motion blur in the vertical with photoshop.

  yes, it look like I’ll be using some blurring and vignetting to hide the flickering as best as possible.
