Playback problems
I’ve just switched from CS4 to CS5 and encountered a problem I haven’t seen yet. I’m far from a pro but I have been using the CS collection since CS3. Before I get started, I’m running 64-bit Win7. I have an AMD 3.0 gig quad core with 8 gig’s of ram. I’m working with AVCHD footage, but have never experienced a problem like this in the 3 years I’ve been editing AVCHD. I know you need a lot of horsepower for AVCHD and that’s hasn’t been a problem in the past.
I recently had a problem with a video that I’m editing. The playback monitor won’t play anything when I play the timeline. The playback monitor is blank, but if I click on the monitor it will show the current frame. The frame shows the bulls-eye in the middle of the frame (like what you see manually position the frame instead of using the position controls in effects controls pane) and when I try to play the timeline it doesn’t go away and show the video like it normally would. The same frame stays there while the timeline plays. I’ve tried opening a new project and importing my sequences. That seemed for fix the problem, but it will occur soon after I start editing again. The timeline has been rendered out and green, so I know it’s not choking on the footage.
I’ve worked with Premiere for about 3 years and can’t figure this one out. I feel like I must have done something silly and the fix is easily but just can figure it out.
Anybody had this happen to them or have a fix for this?

My first instinct is that the MPEG4 codecs weren’t properly installed. Did you install CS5 on top of CS4? Or did you remove CS4 first?

Boy, you nailed that one. Yes, I did install CS5 ontop of CS4 against my better judgement. I was in the middle of an editing job and thought since I had the room I’d do an install over CS4.
I think I actually found the culprit. I’d recently installed the Neat Video plug in because some of my video was shot in low light. The plug in worked awesome but then I ran into those problems I described. After pulling the plug in out of the folder and reloading the project I got a warned about the missing plug in but everything else worked like normal again.
