    Hi

I came to this site via the excellent podcasts which I listen to regularly.

I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem I’m having in Permiere 6.5?

When I try to load an old project into Premiere I have a dialog asking me to Locate A File. When I show it the file I get a dialog box stating “The media type of the selected file is different from that of the missing or offline file…” It asks me this for every single video (well over a hundred)
The file I select is the correct one, all files have been left on my hard disk and not even moved, I’m using the same version of Premiere as I originally used.
    Does anyone have an idea?
Could it be a codec issue? – all videos are DV files. I’m pretty sure XP (SP2) has a microsoft DV codec built in though.

I’d be very grateful for any help.

    Many thanks

    Mat

How old is the project? What version of Premiere did you create it with?

Are you using a capture card with Premiere, or did you when you created that project?

    Hi Timothy

It’s a couple of years old. I’m pretty sure I used 6.5 or 6 at the oldest.
You’re right I did have a DV camera connected via a firewire card, which I dont have now. Could this be the cause?

I’ve just downloaded a Panasonic DV codec, and now it loads! Excellent!

    Thanks Timothy!
    🙂
