  • Playback resolution not full quality

When I play a clip in real-time and the video quality is set to “full”, the image is still at reduced resolution. This is the image playing out from the Decklink card to both HDMI and SDI-connected monitors. This difference is clearly visible between play and pause.

There is a yellow bar over the timeline. Source media is 1080p/23.98 ProRes, XF and H264 in a 1080p/23.98 timeline. Various projects and the issue is evident even on clips without added effects or size manipulation. FWIW, rendering doesn’t necessarily make it look better.

All software is current, including OS, Decklink drivers and CC version. It’s tempting to point to the Decklink card, but there are no issues with this card in FCP 7, X, Resolve or Media Composer all on the same machine.

Should real-time playback be truly full quality?

    2011 Mac Pro 12-core, 32GB RAM, ATI 5870, OSX 10.9.5.

To confirm, you’re saying the image in the output monitor does not appear to be playing back at full quality? Does the quality in the Program monitor look correct?

Yes, the output via HDMI and SDI through a Decklink Extreme 3D card does not look full quality. The viewer display to the computer screen looks a lot better, but not as clean as with other applications, if I look very critically. The paused image – truly “full” quality I suppose – looks better on all outputs. The playing quality – set to “full” – doesn’t look as good as the paused still.

I had the EXACT same problem but managed to find a solution! 😀

Go to Sequence, Sequence Settings, Display Format (drop down menu)
Make sure its set to ’30fps Non-Drop-Frame Timecode’!

This worked the trick for me, I hope it works for you too! 🙂

    Thanks,
