I’ve been researching this and experimenting but cannot get it to work. I had a little sequence built in FCPX that used crossfades and I liked the pacing. My decision on workflow changed later and I upconverted and processed the footage. I wanted to rebuild the sequence exactly in Premiere Pro CS6 (as I’ve been having better luck with grading in PP than FCPX) and so I got all the relevant numbers and arranged everything exactly the same.

When the cross-fades weren’t smooth, I found out that Final Cut’s are bezier natively and PP’s are linear. I got rid of the crossfades, keyframed the opacity to match the length that the crossfades had been, and changed them to bezier. Still not smooth. Tried auto and continuous bezier with the same result.

Basically 50% to 99% does not reveal much gradation and then 99% to 100% opacity goes very fast and it’s only a handful of frames that go from fairly visible to gone, while FCPX had feathered it to where you had several frames that were barely visible. I tried doing an extreme, and made one go to 80% percent in less than a second and then travel the remaining distance to 100% over the course of over 4 seconds. It still went out at the same rate instead of having a gradual fade out (albeit the percentage numbers moving along at a smooth rate).

I also read that having MPE enabled could mess with the rendering, but it’s greyed out in project properties so it’s not even an option.

I can just rebuild it in FCPX if I need to, but this seems like a simple enough procedure to warrant trying to figure out. Any insight?
