    hey everyone.

So, i had a virus last night, it was definitely obvious i had one.. settings were being changed, my anti-virus (microsoft essentials) wasn’t loading up, etc. so, i laid the atom bomb and ran combofix.

so here I am, the next morning after combofix. I’m attempting to load premiere cs5.5.2 and it is crashing. alot. Each time i load premiere it is taking forever to get to the project, and no video is loading in the two windows. occasionally when i play the timeline i’m hearing sound, though it takes a good 5 seconds to hear anything after hitting play… and video never comes up in the source or timeline monitor… sigh, it was working perfectly last night!

I’m all for re-installing CS5. in fact, i have no choice to do that because even when i create a NEW project no video is showing in the source monitor. But, what do you guys/gals think happened here.. is this more a virus and corrupted files? Is this combofix taking out files and changing/resetting settings? I am here at a clients house to edit a project and i’m completely embarrassed b/c the project can’t load. I’m going to run home (two hours away) to do the only thing i know to do, which is to re-install the entirety of cs5. i’m really just looking to see what experts think could have happened here.

    thanks 🙁

If you contracted the virus in the last couple of days then then you need try a system restore point before then. Go into system restore in windows and select show more restore points. Look for a restore point that is within a week of today. Try that and see if that Win 7 image is clean.

hi Erik thanks for the reply.

unfortunately i didn’t have system restore on, so i’m sunk.

but, i just noticed something. I just got home, put my laptop in the dock which is connected to an external monitor. On the dock and with the external monitor Premiere works PERFECTLY. not a hiccup. And then i took it off the dock and used the laptop screen and premiere crashed again. what gives? 🙁

What is the model of the laptop you have? What is the resolution you are running on the laptop screen. Do you have the MPE on hardware or software. Did you turn your system restore points off or do you mean system backup?

    hi Erik

    1) i have a Dell Precision m4700
    2) the resolution on the laptop screen is 1920×1020.. the external monitor is 1650×1080. Its so weird, premiere runs horridly slow now with just the laptop monitor and can’t load up video at all. but with the external monitor its quick as can be and works perfectly.
    3) i have the MPE set for hardware. i’ve edited with just my laptop screen before without problem… but running the antivirus changed something, definitely.
    4) my system restore points were off, yes. i just turned them on.

What GPU you running and what video driver? Switch to Software MPE mode and delete the previews. Switch back to Hardware and delete them again. Does that change the performance?

just tried making a new project and import footage… on the laptop its fine up until i import footage and put it in the timeline. i hit play, and it takes 5 seconds to play. and no video. and then it freezes. i will test this out now with the external monitor as well.

i have a NVIDIA Quadro K2000M. driver seems to be NVIDIA 9.18.13.697. how do i switch to software MPE mode when i’ve already created the project?

ok. I started up a new project with the laptop screen and put MPE on software. worked perfectly. started a new project, put MPE on hardware, no video, crashed again.

tried switching back and forth from hardware to software in my original project, but no change. didn’t run video on software either.
