Can create an HD sequence for broadcast
Posted by Chris Franklin on May 1, 2013 at 9:46 pmHello,
I have a fairly new editing machine and have recently loaded Premiere Pro CS5.
I am trying to create as HD sequence that is acceptable to air on Network TV & cable stations.
As far as I can tell, the stations accept 1280 x 720 & 1920×1080.
For some reason, when I go to create a new sequence and I click on the DVCPROHD folder, there is not an option for one of these frame sizes.
I have uploaded a screen shot of the preset options.
Can someone help me figure out what I need to do to be able to edit HD for broadcast? My settings are fine on a different machine running CS4.

May 1, 2013 at 10:17 pmDVCPRO HD is anamorphic HD. 960×720…1280×1080. What you do is when you are done editing, export a 1920×1080 master, in the codec that the network will take. Or…output to a tape format they accept.

May 2, 2013 at 7:50 pmI have contacted the stations and have submitted several HD spots. This is not a matter of what do they accept…the problem is I am limited on my sequence and exporting options.

How so? DVCPRO HD is anamorphic. 1280×1080 or 960×720. But Adobe Premiere will stretch it out to fill the screen. When it comes time to deliver, then you export a full raster 1920×1080 file…in the codec they request. Can you not export what they want? What DO they want?

May 2, 2013 at 8:10 pmForgive me because I still have not completely wrapped my head around HD. In CS4, I could choose a sequence setting that made the frame size 1280×720 or I could make a sequence 1920×1080. I don’t have either one of these options in CS5.
But it looks like you’re saying that I can make a sequence 1280×1080. The only thing is that I have to export 1920×1080.
If this is so, then my sequence problem is solved, but it brings up a new problem.
The stations want a QT H.264 in either 1280×720 or 1920×1080.
I have selected QT as my format and H.264 as the Video Codec and the frame size is 720×480. I have also went through and chosen every other codec in the list and I can’t get anything that exports 1280×720 or 1920×1080.
Thoughts?

May 2, 2013 at 9:01 pmThanks for the link and he was very informative. Unfortunately, I’m still having the same problem as my last post.
I think I might be missing something from Premiere. Codec or something because I don’t have any codec that will give me 1280×720 or 1920×1080.

May 2, 2013 at 11:44 pmThank you all for your help. I think I’m going to be able to export like I want. I just have to manually set my frame size and I was looking for a preset.
Thanks again.
