WORKFLOW PROBLEM: Creating Proxies with RedCineX Pro for Adobe PR CS6…then PR -> RedCinXPro and back???
My team and I shot on a Red Epic recently and while we have Premiere CS6, we’d like to offline edit using ProRes proxies and then once we have picture lock replace all the low-res files with the full quality 5k files. Ideally we’d like to have access to and color with the full 5k files in say Davinci Resolve and then send them back to premiere to combine with audio for exporting…however we only have Davinci Resolve Lite and that won’t render 5k files. So we’re experimenting in replacing the proxies and coloring in RedCine and then sending the 5k files back to Premiere for additional coloring and combining with finished audio for exporting.
I created a preset and exported proxy files (using this guide here: https://bit.ly/ProRes_Proxies) and now we have to get the 5k files to replace the proxies.
I exported a FCP XML from Pr and imported that into RedCineX Pro and it can correctly replace with the 5k files, however I want to send an XML back to Pr. Whenever I import the XML in Pr the sequence (while the correct dimensions and having the same edits as the proxy sequence before it) doesn’t play. I’ve lowered the settings to 1/16 resolution but the program window is still black. There is also a red line over the entire sequence. Curiously enough though, if I double click one of the clips in the edit, it opens the 5k clip in the source monitor and I can play that fine. I can even drag that clip into the timeline and it plays fine, but I would hate to have to double click each clip in our movie, and replace every edit manually.
I’ve tried exporting xml from red cine using File-Export Shallow-FCP XML AND File-Export Shallow-FCP XML for Pr and neither are working.
Anyone have any idea what’s going on? Is there a better workflow for proxies that we should be using??
Thanks!!!
