  CS5.5 – Failure to Import Sony AVCHD .MTS files

  I’m getting a failure error “… unsupported compression format” when importing video from Sony NX5U AVCHD camera (which has MTS files) into CS5.5 Adobe Premiere Pro. Never had this problem with CS5. The video was shot at 1080i/24fps.

  I tried to convert it into AVI format but lost image quality. I will appreciate assistance from anyone with solution.

  Are you importing from the media browser?

  I’m importing from SDHC card. I also tried to import from hard drive and Sony’s Content Management SW. But all had the same error message “…. unsupported compression format”

  What I’m asking is if you’re using the media browser window to first view the files and drag them in..or using an “import file” menu selection or right clicking in the project panel…

  Try the media browser and see if the clips are accessible that way…

  Have the clips been altered in any way from the camera’s file/directory structure?

  Are you running a trial of Premiere Pro?

  If you have a serialized version, there are some additional codecs that it needs to download/unlock…

  Also, do you have any funky freeware/shareware codec packages installed? Those have been known to screw up the legitimate codecs on certain systems…

  Copy the whole file structure to your hdd first then use the media browser.

  I had free trial cs5.5 then got full version. This is a new PC, there are no freeware codecs installed. Is there a way to verify presence of such codecs?

  The footage works well with movie maker, Vegas and cs5 (different PC) but failed on cs5.5.
