  Izotope RX as plugin?

  Hello,

  Is it possible to use the audio restauration tool Izotope RX2 as a plug-in in PPro CS5.0? If yes, how?

  In theory PrPro supports 64 bit VST. In practice very few plugins work. This is a limitation in how PrPro presently supports VST. Hopefully that will change for the better.

  There are two solutions:

  If you have CS5.5 and Audition you can use RX VSTs there with dynamic linking.

  I prefer to do the following as it’s normally faster and doesn’t require Audition:

  – set the RX standalone app as the default for wav files (on Windows, I don’t know how on Macs)

  – render and replace the audio clip on the timeline (this may require first unlinking if it’s part of a video file)

  – then from the new clips context menu select edit original. This loads the clip in the RX app. After I do my RX work I save the file. PrPro writes the new file wave form data and replaces the clip on the timeline.

  Hi David,

  I also prefer your second solution. That’s exactly the way we use Izotope in Vegas. However, I must be blind or so because there is no way I can find where to change the setting for audio editor from Audition or Soundbooth to Izotope. Where can I make this change?

  Hi Theo,

  If you are on Windows you have to associate wav files with the Rx app so “edit original” will open the file in Rx. In Start do a search for “associations” and that will take you there. If you are on a Mac someone else will have to tell you.

  Thanks for your reply.

  I am working on Windows 7 and PPro CS5. When I do a Windows search for associations, I get no hits. So the folder might be a hidden folder?
  When I search the Adsobe Community Help for associations, I also get no hit. Sorry, but apparently I’m doing something wrong!

  I can ony find an associations option in Bridge. Do I have to set the change in Bridge to get it to work in Premiere?
  If not, can you give some more details on where to find this option?

  Hey Theo,

  OK try this route to it:

  Start::Control Panel::Programs::Make a File Type always open in a Specific Program

  Wait for the list to appear. Scroll down to .wav and double click on it. Browse to the IzotopeRx application and select it.

  Hope this does the trick.

  RX 2.01 has been patched for compatibility with Premiere CS5. You should be able to run the plug-in.

  Thanks. I have patch 2.01, but where do you find the plug-in in PPro CS5? Is it hidden somewhere? I have been looking everywhere, but I can’t find it.

  64 bit VST plugins need to be installed into c:program filesSteinbergVstplugins

  PremierePro by default checks that directory on loading. If a new plugin is found to be compatible it will be listed in the Effects panel under Audio Effects. and when you apply it to an audio clip it’s controls will be in the Effects Control Panel.
