Multiple projects open at the same time
Posted by James Mulryan on June 28, 2011 at 1:49 pmWhy can’t Premiere open more than one project at a time? I use this feature in FCP, very handy for consolidating footage.
Is it because it slows the system down too much?James Mulryan

June 28, 2011 at 2:43 pmPremiere has never allowed opening of more than one project file at a time – but you can merge as many as you want, using the File->Import command. This probably isn’t a solution for everyone (since any changes you make to an imported sequence, won’t have any affect on the original project file).

You can also copy and paste in between projects.

July 15, 2011 at 5:58 amI also require to have multiple projects open simultaneously. It’s because I have a project just for business files, a seperate project that houses music to be used in multiple files, etc… I set it this way when I was a FCP user which allowed multiple projects.
Is there a workaround? -

September 19, 2012 at 3:28 pmI know this thread is quite old, but I imagine there is. At the post house where I used to work the post supervisor enabled it so we could have 2 after effects projects open at the same time. I’m not quite sure how he did it, but I am going to look into it. I just remember it seemed he tricked the computer into thinking there was a second iteration of AE.

March 23, 2015 at 10:00 amI’m a bit late to the party on this, but this has been an issue that annoyed me as well. I however found a work around which I’ve written a quick tutorial on over here: Opening second instance of Premiere Pro.

June 22, 2015 at 8:32 pmHi Jon,
I’m having this problem too, and was excited when I saw you found a work around, but when I clicked the link, it didn’t work. Do you have an updated link?

October 9, 2015 at 6:22 pmI found Jon’s blog with the same info. It’s not the smoothest option (no fault of Jon’s – this is something Premiere should let editors do) but it does the trick.
Here’s the link: https://ukjoncollins.com/video-editor-blog/post/how-to-run-a-second-instance-of-premiere-pro
