  EMERGENCY CS4 JVC unsupported codec issue: Won’t Import

  I used the JVC HM100u and recorded onto .mov files to class 10 cards. I’m now seriously regretting it. The footage was a wedding.

  Normally the file hierarchy on JVC begins with BPAV, but I’m only getting a CQAV file with various XML files inside and mov files that won’t open or transcode.

  I’ve seen threads of others having similar issues, but with no for sure answer. Whenever I import, it loads, and then ends with “missing or unsupported codec” messages.

  I Shot 1080/60i and I’m editing on Premiere CS4 on an i7 tower. I never have problems with other footage or files, but this stuff is kicking my butt… SAVE ME!

  Can the video files be played in VLC or QT player? If yes you may need to transcode. If not do the files play on the camera. If so maybe you can capture using a capture device such as Matrox mxo mini etc.
  If giles don’t play on camera you might be hosed.

  Was this the first time using this camera? If so surely you tested your workflow before jumping into a project.

  If it won’t work with Premiere Pro CS4, you can always try a 30-day free trial of Premiere Pro CS5.5. Since it is a fairly modern camcorder, you may have better luck.
