  Premiere CS5 playback problems

  I’m suddenly having heaps of problems simply getting my footage to play back in my CS5 timeline. I’m not aware that I’ve changed any settings. Clearly this is a user error, but I’ve done fairly extensive searching, and I can’t find the answer to my problem. I’ve been editing in CS5 for months with the same workflow, and the problem is suddenly grinding me to a halt.

  – I shoot with a few Canon 7D cameras.
  – Footage is obviously H264, usually @1080p 23.976
  – I drop the native footage in
  – When I hit spacebar to play in the timeline (also happen in the project window), the play button changes to a stop button, as it normally would, but the video doesn’t play back. After a few seconds of nothing, the stop button changes back to a play button (as if I had stopped the video)

  Any ideas? I’m editing on an iMac with a 2.66 i5 chip and 8GB of RAM. It’s not a beast, but it’s not an underpowered machine, either. Thoughts?

  Did you recently unplug the audio out jack? That can cause a similar problem with PPro if it was done while PPro was open. Usually a switch away and back to PPro App can get it to play nice again. Otherwise a reboot will do the trick.

  If you are still getting the problem try to start a new sequence and copy the clips to it. Test. If still happeniing, start a new Project and import the old project into the new one. Test. If still there I would attempt to isolate whether or not it’s just that clip…
