Footage settings are different outside Premiere
Hi,
I’m using Premiere CS5 to do some video editing and have had a lot of trouble with importing footage into appropriate sequences. Many times I have to edit videos that I do not have the original footage for (for example, I am given an .mp4 or .mov of a movie instead of footage itself). TOday I ran into an issue because I was trying to import a .mp4 into premiere. I threw the video into MPEG Streamclip and looked at the stream info to try to figure out the specifics of the video (since I do not have original footage, I am not always given this information). I used that to set up my sequence presets. MPEG Streamclip said that it was 640x 480 (1.0 square pixels) 29.94 FPS. And the audio was 44100 KHZ. So, i create the sequence with the “desktop” setting. However, when I bring in the footage, it is not the same as it was in MPEG! In premiere its at 59.97 frames per second, and the audio and video syncing is off. It also leaves out part of the audio (so i cant even manually sync it). the video plays fine outside of premiere and when I convert it to .mov it works like gypsy magic. Is there something I’m doing wrong in working with .mp4 in premiere? Is there a better way to set up a sequence to match footage?
