AAF Import From Avid MC 5.5.1 Causes PPro to Crash
Hi all,
We are in the process of dumping our Avid system and switching to primarily Adobe production. This feature came to my attention:
https://tv.adobe.com/watch/adobe-presentations-2009/open-workflows-betw een-avid-and-adobe-cs4-production-premium#transcription-request
And I thought it would be a great solution to the daunting task of getting our media out of Avid MXF and stored in a user-defined manner. I was able to successfully export a DV 25 MXF based sequence in Avid to an AAF file. I was able to get it imported into Premiere and view the clips and sequence in the browser window. I was even able to open the sequence created by the AAF in PPro thought it did not include any video tracks. When I drag, drop clips from the AAF import they do open in the sequence with video and audio. I tried exporting a short DV clip to Quicktime and AVI and was able to get as far as AME, but after clicking ‘Export’ it was only a few moments before PPro crashed. IF it can’t handle DV clips, I’m not sure how to go about our HD files, might need some 3rd party software after all.
We are currently running MC 5.5 and PPro CS5 on the same tower as we only currently have access to capture or dump to tape through Avid based on our Avid specific Nitris DX A/D breakout box. (we are looking at options for a PPro compatible breakout box, but interim will need to capture/dump through MC). Perhaps having the two software apps on the same tower is bogging things down? Only PPro is running and open when I’ve tried these exports, etc.
Thanks for any input,
Lindsay
