Hi all. I have a client who has a presentation theme of “Inside Out.” I will edit soundbites and he would like me to use a transitional effect between soundbites that would be in keeping with that “Inside Out” theme. (We probably won’t be using B-Roll in this — except perhaps as a background that might be required for the transition.)

Do any built-in transitions, available plug-ins, tutorials or examples come to mind that might give me some help? Because this is for a somewhat high-end corporate gathering I can’t get too crazy with it but I know they would like to see something that looks new and different to them.

As I always note here: I am not an AE export but I have used the program a lot and I can follow directions and improvise when needed. One other note: I won’t be able to respond to any suggestions until Monday California time. But I certainly will respond — and definitely appreciate any input.

    Cheers,
    Lee

Just have to say, I’m not an AE export either… I was exported from my mother 🙂

But to be serious, what exactly do you mean by “Inside Out”? Is this some sort of reference that I have just missed out on?

Expert/export/expat/exfoliate….One of those must be right.

I left the “Inside Out” definition rather vague because I didn’t want to limit anyone’s thinking. But, in general, this refers to an element of corporate culture whereby people in the company are encouraged to focus their thinking on the “outside” — on customer needs, essentially — and then bring that knowledge back “inside” their own company to develop products. The idea is to be customer-responsive and avoid the all-too-prevalent approach “let’s build this really cool software and then go outside and see who we can sell it to.”

Thanks for asking. Glad I got a chance to see your post before I walked out the door for the weekend. HTH. And thanks in advance to anyone who has some thoughts about this. (Again…I’ll be back online and able to respond on Monday.)

Suggest you look up US NEWS and World Report, march 27, 2006 issue.
“the fight for the future” and the special executive edition: “Five Myths of Management, Maxim need a makeover”

Lord, if only more idiotic managers and owners would consider this stuff in more depth BEFORE investing in paradigm shifting strategies that have turned out to be huge wastes of money, time, energy and talent.

See also “Satisfaction, how every great company listens to the voice of the customer” (Chris Denove and James Power; yes, JD Power & Assoc)
“When it comes to your customers, perception is reality and ultimately your company is nothing more than what you customers say it is.” Unless, of course, you work for a regulated public utility. Then it’s all about keeping the politicians happy. You can get away wit anything with the customers.

Inside-out sounds like a huge gamble that could go no where. Are you building video for your people, your investors or your customers?

Be that as it may, bogiesan — and I always appreciate your take on these things — I am doing video for a client here and if they want to do “Inside Out” then that is my current favorite topic. If, instead, they chose “Upside Down,” then that would be my current favorite topic.

The VP of Marketing doesn’t look to me for instructions on how to do her job; she looks to me for some expertise in video that can help her to explain her own thinking. Right or wrong though it may be.

If lives were at stake, I’d have a different approach. But in this case it’s only dollars. (Someone else’s.)

    Cheers,

    Lee
