Spanned AVCHD files
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this subject.
I film stage productions from 3-4 cameras. These productions are approx. 1 hour in duration. AVCHD cameras make multiple files out of the 1 hour production (due to the 4gb file size limit of the cameras HD)
If I copy the camera’s AVCHD folder which contains clip info/directory structure (not just the .mts files) i can open up FCP’s “log and transfer” window and it recognizes the multiple .mts files as one large hour long file, and will convert it to an int. codec for editing. pretty simple.
Does PPro have a similar workflow?
I do know that the “media browser” in CS4 and CS5 will view the AVCHD files as one large file as well, but there doesnt seem to be an “easy” workflow with the handling of these files. It seems that you would have to import the file from the media browser to the project panel, then put the file on the timeline, then export that seq. to media encoder, then finally transcode to the int. codec of your choice for editing.
Am I missing something? Or is this truly Adobe’s only workflow. I sincerely hope that it is not. With tapeless cameras pretty much taking over the industry I would have thought that the new CS5 suite would have a better way of handling this.
PLEASE ADVISE. Thank you all in advance.
