  Aspect ratio

  Hi

  I am new to Premiere and i am struggling with a problem. I am capturing Video from a Panasonic DVX100. When i open the capture window and capture a clip from the camera the footage looks fine (720×576 4:3), when i close the capture window and view the same clip in the main project area the clip appears to be in a wide screen format, stretched and distorted. When i check the properties of the clips and the sequence they appear to be fine.

  Can any body help ?

  Are you certain the video was not shot as 16:9 in the camera? Whether shooting 4:3 or 16:9 DV, it is always the same number of pixels, only the Pixel Aspect Ratio changes. If it was 16:9 footage and you captured it in a 4:3 project, the clips might say 4:3, but they will look squished in the 4:3 project.

  Right-click a clip in the Clip Bin and choose Interpret Footage and select a widescreen DV aspect setting from the drop down. The clip should then get letterboxed on the timeline and if the proportions look correct, then it must be a 16:9 clip.

  If so, you can import the clips into a 16:9 project and you may need to use Interpret Footage on them (I believe you can multi-select and do them all at once).
