premiere pro cs3 realtime monitor playback wont work
hello folks
i wondered if you could help me with a problem ive got with premiere pro cs3.
ive been working on a project. all was ok until i decided to reinstall XP from a disk image i made some time ago for various reasons unconnected to premiere. as far as i can tell, there are no problems at all with the computer system except for this one:
when i open the project now, and scrub throught the timeline, nothing happens in the monitor window. when i press spacebar for a preview i get sound playback but the video just shows the frame where i started preview from. when i stop the preview the video jumps to the frame that it would have been on if it had been playing properly. this worked perfectly before the xp image restore. the video is all uncompressed dv from a cannon mv600i, but the same thing happens with all other formats i have tried so. the same thing happens if i create a new project and use footage that wasnt included in the original project.
if i double click any clip on the timeline it plays perfectly in the source window. all clips also play perfectly if i play them directly with media player or any other player independently of premiere.
i also have several files which are reported as being offline (red background “offline” thingy) but i never get the “file offline, where is it” error report where you direct premiere to the file if youve moved it by mistake etc (and anyway, i havent moved anything). the “project / link media” menu item is permenantly greyed out so i cant use that.
its driving me nuts. has anyone any idea what is wrong or what i can do? ive searched various forums but cant find anything to sort it out.
it was working ok before the disk image restore. can anyone suggest anything? im trying to make a music video of my friend tony and i cant really carry on until its fixed.
cheers for any advice you can give me.
Si.
