Patching broke audio in PPro CS4
Posted by Lawrence Pado on November 26, 2008 at 5:51 pmI just patched Premiere Pro CS4 from 4.0 to version 4.0.1 and the audio no longer plays in the timeline. Audio works fine in all other applications and dxdiag also shows no problem.
More specifically .mpg video files (which make up 99% of my project) won’t play the audio but the audio in a .mp4 video file works fine. They both use 48000Hz Compressed Stereo.
Any ideas?

November 26, 2008 at 5:59 pmI also just noticed that the audio waveform does not show up in any of the .mpg files in the timeline but the waveform for the .mp4 files does.
The audio does exist when I play the files in Bridge.

November 26, 2008 at 9:23 pmOk, I also deleted the Media Cache folders as well to no avail.
I uninstalled v4.0.1 and reinstalled 4.0 and I am back in business.
Now I’m curious, has anyone else with version 4.0.1 been able to import .mpg files and get the audio to work?

December 3, 2008 at 11:31 amHi
I have the same problem, no audio with the v4.01 with mpg files.
So.. I will have to unistall v4.01 and instal the v4.0, for the moment I was not able to find another solution. -

December 4, 2008 at 12:23 amI’m just glad someone else can benefit from my pain. Seriously though I wonder if this is a problem for everybody who uses mpg?

December 12, 2008 at 4:11 amGuys I have the same problem and would like to uninstal 4.01 but can’t find an uninstaller. Do I have to remove Premiere CS4 completely and reinstall? I have it installed with production premium.
Thanks,
Dan

December 12, 2008 at 3:29 pmI have production Premium as well.
In XP:
Go to: Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Adobe Creative Suite 4 Production Premium then click the Change/Remove button. You’ll get the option to uninstall just Premiere Pro.
When you are done just use the install disks to reinstall just Premiere Pro. Make sure all of your other programs are closed and your Anti-virus software is off while installing.

December 21, 2008 at 11:53 amYou all speak about uninstalling, but did anyone try to go to Adobe folder and replace the .dll file “ad2ac3dec.dll” (of the previous version)? I did it, and it seems to work.
This is a way to have the .ac3 file in the older version of PPCS3.
Honestly I do not know how and why this file get corrupted after updating.
I also had the same problem in After Effect CS4 after the (bloody) update.
Please, write if this is useful for you also.
Cheers.Giorgio

December 21, 2008 at 1:11 pmTip number two:
I also think it could be useful undermarking to de-activate any antivirus/firewall during the updating process.
If someone is scared by web-hackers, then close internet connection.
Does any of you use Klite codecs?
I’m not really positive impressed ’bout them.
I suspect sometimes they have “collisions” with Adobe Media Encoder, expecially.
Let me know if I help some.Giorgio

December 21, 2008 at 4:08 pmThanks! That is a great tip. Now I can get the benefits of the patch without that bug. By the way the DLL can be found in:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder CS4\ad2ac3dec.dll
or
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS4\Support Files\ad2ac3dec.dll
