    Hey…

I usually do all of my work in NTSC DV, 720 x 480, (0.9), Lower Field First…

I’m doing a little HD test, just to try it, as I’ve never done anything HD before. I made my 1920 x 1080 29.97 Animation in After Effects, and Rendered it out as a 10-bit AVI, because I don’t trust AE’s MPEG encoder. I decided I’m going to do that part in PP2. But I’m setting up the project, and I chose the ‘Adobe HD-SDI 1080i’ setting, and then I saw that it says upper field first. Is it supposed to be like that? I had no idea that HD in America was supposed to be Upper Field First… Am I supposed to change that? And if it’s right, then will the fact that I rendered my animation out in Lower field first mess things up? Should I re-render that?

    Thanks,

    Ben Tubb

    Arg….

And on top of that, how do I even export as an MPEG2-DVD for HD? In the Adobe Media Encoder, I can’t seem to change it away from 720 x 480… I can change the Pixel Aspect Ratio to Widescreen, and then it fits, but still, that’s downscaling. What is the process of getting a 1920 x 1080 video onto a DVD? I have Encore 2 as well.

    Thanks,

    Ben Tubb

There is no way to get the HD on to a regular DVD for a regular DVD player.

There are DVD players that can play WMV-HD files. I own one of those.

If you want to export to one of the new HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disks, that is a different issue.

… Are you serious? UGH. And to think I was excited that I could do HD in PP2…

And Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are considerably out of my budget range right now (I’m a high school student making 6.50 an hour) 🙂

    Thanks anyways man,

You can still get an HD image on to a PC. Don’t give up completely. Just use Windows Media.

I know, I was just hoping to see it on my Dad’s new HDTV.

    Thanks,

    Hi there
Why don’nt you just output the final edit back to tape, plug in the camera directly in to the TV and watch ????? That’s the only way to watch HD on the TV, if you don’nt have blue ray or the HD DVD Burner. Samsung sells one for about 900 dollars!!!!!!hopefully will come down in price by the end of the year.

He is a kid. He doesn’t seem to have a HDV camera, nor the money to get a HD DVD player.

Be patient. Maybe Dad will get one to watch a movie he really likes that has been rereleased as HD.
