  • Why does 16×9 footage come in squashed?

I imported a 16×9 footage that I saved out from AVID. It comes in squashed. I have to put the clip in the timeline, and then adjust the height of the clip to make it look correct. Anyone know how I can eliminate this step?

You need to tell AE that the clip is widescreen. File>interpret footage>main. Select widescreen pixel aspect ratio. Hit OK, then drag the footage onto the new comp button at the bottom of the project window to make a comp with settings that match the footage.

then once you’ve done all that — at the bottom of the comp window you may need to hit the button with the little white square to make the comp see the right pixel aspect ratio
