    Hi there,

    my customer imported his video material from a dv cam by fire wire to hard disk. When I import these avi files (between 4 and 9 GB size) premiere pro 1.5 only imports about 2 or 3 minutes.
    On another workstation with premiere pro 1.5 it

    You will need to capture the files using Premiere. The capturing app wraps the DV file with a header designating the codec. Your PC does not have the correct codec.

    Your customer captured the material to the wrong type of AVI and it is Premiere Pro’s fault? Interesting way to look at it.

    But why can After Effects and media player handle the files and premiere not?

    Just guessing, but they are probably type 1 instead of type 2.

    AE can handle it, but Premiere Pro does not have the same exact engine or access to codecs.

    By the way, there is a free utility to make the conversion from Type 1 to Type 2 on the Ulead web site.

    That program has a problem with files over 4GBs. It causes just the audio problems you describe.
