What are these video distortions (colorful echo trails?)
Hello,
I’m hoping someone can help me with the colorful trails and colorful washouts in this:
I’m hoping for just a few hints, hahah. How could i achieve a similar effect? Are the figures rotobrushed? I know to use the echo effect, but not how to use it on just an isolated color/area.
Really appreciate any tips or advice!

are you sure you want ..”this”?.. echo effect and then probably duplicated the layer again..made it much brighter and then tinted it and used itself as a luma matte..im guessing since the edges are all over the place

I’m experimenting with the luma matte now.. Any idea how to isolate this effect only to certain areas of frame and not the whole thing?

When you say isolate the effect only part of the frame, have you tried using either masks or having the effect pre-comped and then using masks? If it doesn’t like working with masks you could always put the masks on a layer above and use alpha mattes.
If you mean you only wanted working with the brightest part of the image, before the echo effect if you apply a levels effect you should be able to crank up the brightness of the bright spots and make everything else black
