  • Create Null from Paths – only working with closed Paths?

Posted by Isa Dimpfl on January 14, 2019 at 2:01 pm

    hi all,

i want to parent a hand to an “arm” which is just a shape path in AE. the path has 3 points: shoulder, elbow and wrist. i want to parent an illustrator layer (hand) to the last point of the path (wrist).

when i select the path and click the “create nulls from paths” script i get an alert “error: no paths selected”.

does this script only work with joined paths eg. a rectangle?

is there an other solution for my problem?

    thank you!

    hi
Be sure that u selected (PATH) under (Path1) under (shape1)
but in your case i see that better to use duik bassel plugin or rubber hose plugin, its better for rigging characters
duik for cut out illustrations characters
    rubber hose for strokes characters

Hey Isa, I’ve had similar troubles with elipses and rectangles. Try right click>Convert to Bezier Path. Should be recognised as a path then.

Duik Bassel and RubberHose2 are good go-to’s for light-medium duty rigs, so unless you’re creating a really robust rig I’d do as above poster mentioned and look at those as options.
