  • How can I make an effect follow a moving object while keeping the original

    Hey everyone!

I’m working on a clip where I have a glow effect applied to a moving object, but I also need the glow to fade in and out at specific points in the clip. I can get the object tracked with motion tracking, but when I try to adjust the FX timing afterward, the keyframes and tracking data seem to interfere with each other.

Is there a good way in VEGAS Pro to have the effect follow the tracked object while still controlling when the effect itself appears/disappears? I’d rather not manually keyframe the whole thing if possible.

    Hey!

Yeah, I’d separate the tracking from the effect timing. Track the object first, then transfer the tracking data to the effect/mask you want to follow. VEGAS treats the tracking data as event-based, so you can still use the effect’s own keyframes to control when the glow appears, disappears, or changes intensity.

For example, you could have the glow at 0% at the beginning, bring it up to 100% when you want it to appear, and then keyframe it back down later. The tracked position will continue following the object independently.

This VEGAS tutorial demonstrates the motion-tracking workflow and applying effects to tracked objects:
