Adding more layers to an already imported Illustrator?
Hey guys,
Here’s a problem that has me scratching my head?
I have a placed Illustrator file with 3 layers in an AE comp.
I need to add ONE more LAYER to the original illustrator file
I cannot get the 4th layer to show up when I “reload” the project files , it will up-date and reload OK but only the original 3
Is there a way to do it?Cheers

Perform a Replace Footage instead. Don’t know why AI is finicky this way when PhotoShop is fine with it.

I gave that a shot but the options for the comp and the individual files is greyed out?. Am I doing it the right way?thanks

How are you initially importing; as footage or as a comp? That might be the issue, although it shouldn’t be. If you load as footage, then it’s a single file in the project window and it updates as expected.
I just tested with an AI file imported as footage and in the project window simply selected Reload, and it updated with a newly added layer.
If you’ve imported as a comp though, you can update layers but it won’t see add’l layers. You’ll have to re-import in that case. You can then bring the new layer into the original comp if you’ve already done work in AE.
It’s confusing at times and I find that i always have to run some tests to refresh the memory.

Ah, I think I got! So create a seperate file of the extra Illustrator element on its own and then load that as a single footage into the project window and then drag it into the previous illustrator comp along with all the other layers.
A bit of a work around but good to know it can be done, thanks for you help ☺RT
