Playback is fine in source monitor, but slow in the program monitor
I recorded footage on a RED at 6K. I imported the footage with the “scale to frame size” option selected. When I watch the footage in the source monitor at 1/4 resolution, it plays back smoothly. No lag. I then created a new sequence with the ARRI 1080p settings. I dragged the source monitor footage into the sequence. Premiere said the footage didn’t match, and did I want to change the sequence to match the footage. I tried both the “yes” and the “no, ” but no matter what I choose, the program monitor is incredibly laggy, even at 1/8th resolution. It seems like it’s not a processing issue if it can play the source content just fine. Working on a Macbook pro, 11.5.2 OS, Premiere 15.4.1.

More details are helpful, like how much ram, drive size, type, etc.
I suspect you’re underpowered as set up. One alternative is create proxies as you seem to be in 6k which is a lot for a laptop to handle.
I don’t use Mac to edit, so I suggest you join our Facebook Premiere group. Lots of pros there on Macs. Ask for Kyle.

Thank you for the reply. I guess my question is, why would those hardware specs matter if my computer has shown it can easily play the footage? Why would the program monitor be different than the source monitor?

I’ve tried every possible sequence setting that should make this work. So confused. How is the source monitor playback processing different than the program one if the footage and the sequence have the same setting?
